Get to know our past
Dallas Family Practice, serving the Back Mountain with quality medical care for 50 plus years, began in this manner:
On December 31, 1964, Irvin Jacobs M.D. relocated his practice from Noxen to a newly constructed building on the corner of Machell and Sterling Avenues in Dallas thus starting Dallas Family Practice. In 1970, he was joined by Charles A. Krivenko M.D. who had been in primary care practice in Laceyville. Shortly thereafter, the original office space was doubled in size.
In the early 1980’s, Thomas M. Campbell D.O., after completing his Family Practice Residency in Wyoming Valley, became the third physician to join. Around the same time, another addition was added to the office building.
In 1986, Dallas Family Practice was acquired by Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, and during its ownership, Dallas Family Practice was to grow from a three-physician group to six physicians. Diane Lowe M.D. was the next physician to join coming from Rural Health in Noxen. Maria McGrane also joined after moving her practice from Machell Avenue and the Dallas Highway. After a few years, she opted to enter a residency in Psychiatry and left the area. Dr. Krivenko left Primary Care Medicine to enter administration. Thomas Krebs, M.D. joined shortly thereafter. He left after a few years to pursue other opportunities out of the area. Jane Durkin D.O. completed her residency and joined Dallas Family Practice in 1990. Soon after, Gary Nothstein D.O. became a member.
Having outgrown its physical space, a new home for Dallas Family Practice was completed in 1995 on Upper Demunds Road. Several years later Dr. Campbell left to become a full-time administrator and Kurt Maas M.D. joined the practice. Soon after that Richard Huntington M.D., having completed his Family Practice Residency, became a member.
On January 1, 2001, after Wyoming Valley Health Care System divested itself of medical group ownership, Dallas Family Practice, LLC was formed. Privately owned and consisting of three physicians- Jane Durkin D.O., Richard Huntington M.D. and Irvin Jacobs M.D., it became independent of the hospital system and moved to its present location at 16 Church Street in Dallas.
Because of its growth at this site, a new physician, Richard Oley D.O., joined Dallas Family Practice, LLC on August 1, 2002. Dr. Huntington left in November, 2002 to pursue other opportunities.
In June of 2017 Irvin Jacobs, M.D. retired after dedicating over 60 years to the practice, patients and the community.
Today our doctors, Jane Durkin, D.O. and Richard M. Oley, D.O., along with our Physician Assistants and our staff, are ready to care for you and your family.
